ABC Wednesday ~ E

ABC Wednesday ~ E

February 18

E is for Epilobium augustifolium.

I confess I love wildflowers but I would not know any of the Latin names unless I looked in my reference books. However, I was getting a bit tired of taking pictures of snow, snow and more snow, so I decided to look in my wildflower file and could not find anything with a common name beginning with E. The flower above is commonly called Fireweed because it is one of the first plants to appear in burnt over areas. It generally appears in my neck of the woods around late August.

E is for Epigaea Repens

Locally this is known as Mayflower. It is a woodland groundcover that appears in our woods in May if we are lucky enough to be rid of our snow by then. This is not a great picture as it doesn't capture its pinkish hue. It has waxy leaves and is very fragrant.

For more pictures brought to you by the letter E, please visit ABC Wednesday.

This is a beautiful splash of color on my grey, gloomy, rainy day.

How clever to know the Latin names. I only know the Dutch and sometimes the English names. Thanks for your visit and kind comment.

Nice Photos... very good choice for E. I needed a glimpse of something other than the snow out my windows.

Great to see flowers at this time of year! Thanks for pulling these out.

Since reading Anne of Green Gables at least a dozen times, I've always wondered what Mayflowers looked like....now I know!

Thanks for dropping by.
