ABC Wednesday ~ E
February 18
E is for Epilobium augustifolium.
I confess I love wildflowers but I would not know any of the Latin names unless I looked in my reference books. However, I was getting a bit tired of taking pictures of snow, snow and more snow, so I decided to look in my wildflower file and could not find anything with a common name beginning with E. The flower above is commonly called Fireweed because it is one of the first plants to appear in burnt over areas. It generally appears in my neck of the woods around late August.
E is for Epigaea Repens
Locally this is known as Mayflower. It is a woodland groundcover that appears in our woods in May if we are lucky enough to be rid of our snow by then. This is not a great picture as it doesn't capture its pinkish hue. It has waxy leaves and is very fragrant.

This is a beautiful splash of color on my grey, gloomy, rainy day.
Exquisite flowers! I love wildflowers too.
Exciting to think about flowers - outside in the warm and sunshine...it will happen, won't it?
Nice post!
I love too wild flowers specially epilobe. They are very beautiful in Finland and in the French Alpes.
Lovely colourful choice
I luv that Fireweed - very pretty.
Thanks for sharin' those "spring-like" pics, and I hope you have a great week ahead!
Cousin, those pictures warm my frozen little heart!
How clever to know the Latin names. I only know the Dutch and sometimes the English names. Thanks for your visit and kind comment.
Nice photos...I esp like the first one...pretty flower for a not so pretty name...and nice color...
Lovely post. Fireweed is a bit of a favourite of mine.
Nice Photos... very good choice for E. I needed a glimpse of something other than the snow out my windows.

Great to see flowers at this time of year! Thanks for pulling these out.
Since reading Anne of Green Gables at least a dozen times, I've always wondered what Mayflowers looked like....now I know!
Thanks for dropping by.
Lovely flowers. Good E.
